Wachusett Brewing Company is looking for an experienced commercial brewer with hands-on operational experience, ready to learn all aspects of a mid-sized brewery. The ideal candidate will be passionate about, committed to and be relentless on product -quality.  

- Ensure all safety protocols are observed in brewing and cellaring
- Complete tracking and recording key measurements during the process
- Review and follow all brewhouse and cellar SOP’s
- Offer insight on troubleshooting, technical maintenance, and adherence to SOP’s
- Work and communicate well across all levels of a brewery operation (management, packaging, customer, suppliers, etc.)
- Collect data relative to brewing and cellaring for the QA department
- Offer suggestions on process improvements to brewing techniques
- Comply with all safe chemical handling procedures including personal protection equipment such as gloves and goggles
- Operation of 5 vessel semi-automated 50 bbl brewhouse
- Harvest and pitch yeast as needed
- Adding hops to kettle/whirlpool
- CIP fermenters/yeast brinks
- Taking gravities of fermenters as necessary
- Occasional weekend/holiday work
- Participate in tastings
- Calculating for gravity adjustments and hop alpha changes
- Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Occasional pilot brewing on 1 bbl Spike System  

- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, push, pull and walk on uneven surfaces on an occasional basis
- Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside
- Occasionally lift up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to work in a brewery environment which may be loud, wet, slick, humid, hot and cold
- Reliability
- Ability to move full pallets of grain with a pallet jack
- Ability to move full kegs
- Ability to stand for the majority of a shift

- 2+ years of professional brewing experience
- Passion for brewing quality beer
- Technical understanding of the brewing process
- Ability to consistently follow established recipes for our beers as well as those of our contracts
-  Willingness to cover for coworkers’ vacations and ability to work 12-hour days as necessary
- Experience following SOPs
- Experience creating and brewing multiple styles of beer
- Prior knowledge of barrel-aging and brewing sours is a plus
- In depth knowledge of yeast strains, hop varieties, grain varieties, grain roasts, etc.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and constantly changing work environment
- Writing and math skills are necessary to accurately complete a dilution calculation, volume, flow, density, weight, length, pressure, and other unit conversions, calculate beer volumes/losses and alcohol content

- Excellent interpersonal skills and team collaboration
